It isn’t hard to find something to write about when you’re given a word like Reflect in a week where you buried a sweet, 98 year old woman who has loved well.
That dear lady was my husband’s grandma. We gathered to celebrate her this week.
Her life is a long love in one direction.
She wasn’t showy or outspoken on a stage. She raised five delightful girls and a lot of chickens.
She helped her husband scratch away a living on the farm and faithfully loved him for 61 years.
Grandma lived out 98 long years on this earth teaching her family what family was all about.
We honored her by singing the songs she loved and reading the scriptures that were dear to her.
The great-grandchildren scampered around the mourners and played in the back hallways and stair-cases of the church.
None of us wanted to leave each other.
Some of us sat around a table and made sure we had each other’s info, friended the family newcomers on facebook and learned how to ‘bump’.
Finally we left one another to wander back home across the mountains and the prairies, our hearts warm and our arms full of hugs.
Grandma and Grandpa have left us a legacy of that long love lived in one direction.
This is grace.
